Philadelphia Phillies top prospect Andrew Painter was shut down last Wednesday with what was described as an elbow injury. Speculation has run rampant on the severity of the injury as the team has said Painter will be undergoing tests.
Since then, there has been radio silence on the injury front. As the old adage says "no news is good news.." Sort of.
However, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com did give an update on Monday evening regarding Painter saying that "There doesn't seem to be serious concerns about Andrew Painter's right elbow, but the Phillies want to be careful with him."
That is good news coming out of the Phillies camp on Painter as it doesn't mention surgery or the dreaded "Tommy John."
It does however mean that Painter is likely no longer a candidate for the fifth rotation spot as we mentioned a few days ago.
Bailey Falter is now the front runner to assume that role.
All in all, it seems the worst of the storm has passed when it comes to Philadelphia's top prospect.
