Earlier this week, Kim Ng left her position as general manager of the Miami Marlins. We heard lots of reports, including that ownership wanted to hire a Baseball Operations person above Ng, and that the two sides had philosophical differences about the way the organization should be run.

According to a report from Barry Jackson on social media, this could be one of those philosophical differences. Jackson is a Miami Herald reporter who has 104,000 "X" followers.

Per source, the Marlins have let go director of amateur scouting D.J. Svihlik. One of the contrasts in visions between Bruce Sherman and Ng, we're told, is Sherman wanted to replace Svihlik because Marlins' draft hasn't produced much with position players. Ng wanted to keep him.

If that's true, Sherman isn't wrong. The Marlins haven't had much success lately in the position player side of drafting. That said, the Marlins made the playoffs in both 2020 and 2023 under Ng, so something had to be going right.

Per an MLBTradeRumors report citing Jackson's reporting:

Top position player draft picks for the Marlins under Ng like catcher Joe Mack , infielder Kahlil Watson , and infielder Jacob Berry have all struggled to this point in their professional careers, though Watson is no longer part of the organization after being dealt to Cleveland at the trade deadline this year.

Ng did show an ability to run the organization though, hiring a capable manager in Skip Schumaker and making multiple deadline moves which helped get the Marlins to the playoffs like acquiring David Robertson, Josh Bell and Jake Burger.
