Nationals Demote Player Immediately After Shutout Loss

The 25-year-old has appeared in 17 games for the Nationals this season, making nine starts. He has hit .280 with seven hits, one home run, three RBIs, seven runs and one stolen base in 25 at-bats.

Pinckney first reached the majors in August after James Wood landed on the injured list with an oblique strain. With Wood back in the lineup, opportunities for Pinckney became more limited.

The Alabama product has continued to develop in the minors, where he hit 13 home runs earlier this season. His latest assignment gives him another chance to get regular at-bats with Rochester.

The move also comes as Washington evaluates its roster down the stretch. The Nationals fell to 71-82 after Wednesday’s loss and have been eliminated from postseason contention.

For Pinckney, the immediate goal will be to finish the season strong in Triple-A while continuing to build toward another opportunity in Washington. The Nationals will now use the open roster spot to add pitching depth for the final stretch.

Washington has 9 games remaining on its schedule, giving the organization another opportunity to evaluate its younger players before turning its attention to the 2027 season.
