Brady House delivered a go-ahead RBI double in the seventh inning. Josh Bell and Jacob Young each drove in three runs as the Washington Nationals erupted for a season-high 15 runs in a 15-9 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night.

CJ Abrams, Luis García Jr., and Nathaniel Lowe recorded three hits for Washington, which also notched a season-best 20 hits. García and Lowe each chipped in two RBI, and reliever Brad Lord (2-5) held the Angels scoreless over 1 2/3 innings to earn the win.

Despite entering the game with a 5-18 record in June, the Nationals scored in the final five innings, including a four-run outburst in the ninth to seal the win.

Bell started Washington’s night with a two-run homer in the second. In the third, Young delivered a clutch two-out, two-run double and scored on Abrams’ RBI single. Lowe added an RBI double in the fifth and later crossed the plate on a Daylen Lile single to give the Nationals an 8-7 lead.

Taylor Ward, Nolan Schanuel, and Jo Adell all homered for the Angels, who matched a season high with 19 hits, but couldn’t keep pace with Washington’s offensive onslaught. Sam Bachman (1-1) took the loss in relief.

Before the game, the Angels announced that manager Ron Washington would miss the rest of the season due to a medical issue. Bench coach Ray Montgomery was named interim manager.

Key Moment

After walking Bell to start the seventh, Bachman surrendered a first-pitch double down the left field line to House, scoring Bell and giving the Nationals a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Key Stat

Seven Angels batters recorded multiple hits, contributing to the team’s season-high 19-hit total — yet it wasn’t enough to overcome Washington’s relentless offense.

Up Next

Washington will send RHP Michael Soroka (3-5, 5.06 ERA) to the mound on Saturday against Angels RHP Kyle Hendricks (5-6, 4.83 ERA).
