Nationals' Stephen Strasburg back on IL with neck strain

Washington Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg cannot get right this spring.

Per Jessica Camerato of the MLB website, the Nationals placed Strasburg on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a neck strain. In a corresponding roster move, Washington recalled relief pitcher Kyle McGowin from Triple-A Rochester.

Strasburg missed over a month of action earlier this season due to right shoulder inflammation but made two starts in the second half of May. However, he was unable to complete two full innings of work in Tuesday's matchup against the Atlanta Braves before he exited the contest because of his latest setback.

The 32-year-old voted 2019 World Series Most Valuable Player made only two starts during the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign before nerve issues in his throwing hand shut him down through the summer and fall. Strasburg is 1-2 with a 4.57 ERA this season.

Without the services of the three-time All-Star for the majority of the year, the Nationals have fallen to 22-29 and are dead last in the National League East standings.
