The Washington Nationals are getting creative amid the coronavirus pandemic as their World Series ring ceremony will not be held at Nationals Park this summer.
Instead, the ring ceremony will be held virtually, according to The Athletic's Brittany Ghiroli, and will be aired Sunday at 7 p.m. ET on MASN and MLB Network with players and coaches being featured throughout the presentation.
This will be the first virtual ring ceremony in baseball history, and the first-ever ceremony for the Nationals franchise after defeating the Houston Astros in seven games for the organization's first World Series title in 2019.
Washington also is set to air a two-part documentary of their 2019 season titled "Improbable," and it will begin with part one on Saturday and part two before Sunday's ceremony.
While this situation is unfortunate for the Nationals and their fans, it's unknown whether or not they'll have another celebration when fans finally can return to the ballpark after COVID-19 concerns die down.
MLB and the players' association are struggling to agree on terms for a start to the 2020 season amid the pandemic, and if the campaign ends up being canceled, then the Nationals title will be safe for at least another year. However, canceling the season seems a bit drastic at this point, and anything can happen in the matter of days as deliberations and plans continue to be discussed.
