Neto’s Walk-Off Single Lifts Angels Past Mariners 3-2 in Extras

On a night when the Angels honored him with a bobblehead giveaway, Zach Neto delivered a fitting finish — a two-out, walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning to secure a 3-2 win over the Seattle Mariners on Friday night at Angel Stadium.

Neto’s game-winning hit was the first walk-off of his career — snuck past a diving attempt by Mariners second baseman Cole Young, scoring the automatic runner and ending the Angels’ four-game skid.

The game had been locked in a tight battle thanks to strong performances from both starting pitchers. Angels righty José Soriano gave up two runs over six innings with five strikeouts, while Mariners starter Bryan Woo also pitched six innings, allowing two runs on four hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

Seattle’s José Rodriguez provided all of the Mariners’ offense, launching solo home runs in the first and sixth innings — his 16th of the season and fifth career multi-homer game — to tie the game at 2-2.

Jo Adell, battling through a 1-for-20 slump entering the game, gave the Angels an early lead in the first inning with a clutch two-run double to left field.

In extra innings, Angels reliever Ryan Zeferjahn (6-3) kept the Mariners off the board despite a two-on, no-out jam. He froze Cal Raleigh with a 99 mph fastball to escape the inning and set the stage for Neto’s heroics. Mariners reliever Casey Legumina (4-5) took the loss.

Key Moment:

In the top of the 10th, Zeferjahn struck out Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh looking with a blazing 99-mph heater, stranding two runners and preserving the tie — a pivotal moment that led to the Angels’ walk-off win.

Key Stat:

Seattle starter Bryan Woo has now pitched six or more innings with two or fewer walks in all 20 of his starts this season — the fourth-longest such streak in MLB history, behind only Juan Marichal (23 games in 1968), Cliff Lee (21 in 2010), and Curt Schilling (21 in 2002).

Up Next:

The Angels will send left-hander Tyler Anderson (2-6, 4.43 ERA) to the mound Saturday night as the series continues. The Mariners will counter with right-hander George Kirby (4-5, 4.65 ERA).
