A native of Loma de Cabrera, Dominican Republic, Furcal made his MLB debut in April 2000 with the Atlanta Braves. That same year he took home NL Rookie of the Year honors. His career spanned 14-seasons with the Braves, Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals, and Miami Marlins.
A three-time All-Star, Furcal amassed 1,187 hits, 113 home runs, 314 steals and 1,063 runs scored during his career. He won a World Series ring with the Cardinals in 2011.
Speaking from his home, Furcal confirmed the arrest to reporter Tenchy Rodriguez.
Furcal, 47, informed the reporter that he personally turned himself into authorities after returning home from visiting his son at school. Furcal also admitted the "missile" he used to throw into the vehicle was a rock, used to hit a truck driver in the hand after he was attacked with a knife.
Florida law, in part, defines a "missile" as a "a stone or other hard substance which would produce death or great bodily harm."
Furcal was arrested twice during his MLB-career, both for driving under the influence in the State of Georgia, while a member of the Braves.
Court records show Furcal was released on a $7,500 bond following Wednesday's arrest. Charges are currently under investigation.
