The New York Mets acquired Relief Pitcher Gregory Soto from the Baltimore Orioles on Friday. Baltimore received prospects Wellington Aracena and Cameron Foster in the deal. Soto, a two-time All-Star, is 0-2 this season with a 3.96 ERA. How will Soto fit with the New York Mets?

The New York Mets hold a slim lead over the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East. New York’s bullpen has struggled as of late. The team had a poor few weeks in June/July. The bullpen’s woes were a big part of the problem. New York is 11th in the league in bullpen ERA.
Soto’s role with the Mets will be as a setup man. He will look to set the table for Closer Edwin Diaz in the second half of the regular season. New York’s bullpen has needed to overcome injuries to players like Dedniel Nunez, Max Kranick, Drew Smith, and A.J. Minter. That has impacted the ability of the Mets to hold onto leads late in the game. Hopefully, Soto will bring stability to that part of the ballclub.
