The New York Mets were shut out by the Atlanta Braves on Friday night by a score of 7-0.
While the final box score just looks like your every day blow out, that's not really the case.
The Mets had all kinds of chances in this game, as they collected seven base hits and nine Braves walks - and were still unable to score. That effort in offensive futility put them in baseball history.

The Mets are the only MLB team in the modern era to collect 7+ hits and draw 9+ walks in a 9-inning game but not score a single run.
The Modern Era extends since 1901 so we're talking over 120 years of baseball. That's a rough night for the Mets, who are really just playing out the string at this point.
After trading away Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Eduardo Escobar, and Mark Canha at the trade deadline, the Mets are squarely focused on next season, but that doesn't mean you can squander so many scoring opportunities.
New York is now 52-63 and in fourth place in the National League East. They are a whopping 21.5 games behind the Braves in the division, as Atlanta is the best team in baseball this season at 73-41.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday with Game 1 starting at 1:10 p.m. ET and Game 2 at 7:15 p.m. ET.
Game 1 will feature Allan Winans (ATL) against Denyi Reyes (NYM) while Game 2 is Spencer Strider (ATL) vs. Jose Quintana (NYM).
