New York Mets Place Tommy Hunter on 15-day IL
USA TODAY Sports

Another member of the Mets' pitching staff has gone down with an injury.

On Tuesday, the Mets placed relief pitcher Tommy Hunter on the 15-day IL with back spasms.

Hunter has made two appearances for the Mets this season, allowing five runs in four innings.

His first two innings on the season were scoreless, but on Monday he threw 44 pitches across two innings against the Brewers and allowed five earned runs.

Hunter spent time on the IL last season with lower back tightness. The year before, in 2021, Hunter's season ended prematurely due to back surgery.

The Mets have replaced Hunter on the roster with right-handed pitcher Denyi Reyes. To make room for Reyes on the 40-man roster, the Mets moved Bryce Montes de Oca to the 60-day IL after he underwent Tommy John surgery last week.
