New York Mets Shortstop Francisco Lindor got the team off to a great start this evening. He hit his fifth leadoff home run of the year to help New York jump out to an early 1-0 lead against the hapless Colorado Rockies. The franchise record for leadoff home runs in a season was set by Curtis Granderson. He hit 7 in both the 2015 and 2016 campaigns.
Lindor had one of his best games of the season on Friday night. He finished 3-of-4 with multiple solo home runs and 2 RBI. His performance helped the New York Mets prevail 4-2. It has been a mediocre start to the season for Lindor. He is hitting .278 with 12 home runs and 33 RBI. Will this performance keep Lindor performing at a high level?

It has been a strong start to the season for New York. They are in second place in the National League East with a 35-22 record. The Mets were expected to have a strong offense in 2025, but that part of the ballclub has struggled coming out of the gates. They are 17h in batting average, 10th in home runs, and 12th in runs scored. First Baseman Pete Alonso has been the team’s best offensive player. He is sixth in the league in home runs and 10th in OPS.
New York’s pitching staff has been its strength. They are leading the league in ERA, 14th in WHIP, and fourth in opposing batting average. That is such a promising sign because many of New York’s pitchers are on the shelf. Once they are healthy enough to return, their pitching will only get better.
Lindor and the New York Mets return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon for the middle game of their three-game set against the Colorado Rockies. With Lindor a mere three home runs away from breaking Granderson’s record, he should make history sooner rather than later.
