New York Mets Starting Pitcher Sean Manaea took the ball this evening in the team’s first game of the second half of the regular season. He responded with a great start at home against the Cincinnati Reds. He surrendered one earned run over four innings and punched out six. His lone hit surrendered was a solo home run by Left Fielder Austin Hays. A solo home run by Right Fielder Juan Soto and an RBI single by Second Baseman Jeff McNeil gave Manaea some early run support.
This was only the lefty’s second start of 2025 season. His first start of the year came on July 13 on the road against the Kansas City Royals. He made his season debut so late because of an elbow and oblique injury. He has punched out 13 in 7.1 innings this year. Will he continue being effective as he ramps up?
Manaea debuted with the Oakland Athletics in 2016. His career has included stints with the San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, and New York Mets. He experienced a career resurgence with the Mets in 2024. He signed a three-year $75 million contract to remain with the club in December 2024. He played a critical role in New York’s improbable run to the NLCS last season. He was 2-1 with a 4.74 ERA during the MLB Playoffs.
Manaea’s next scheduled start will come against the Los Angeles Angels at home on July 23. If the veteran pitcher can continue pitching well, it will bolster New York’s rotation as the summer marches on.
