New York Mets Starting Pitching With Great 11 Games

The New York Mets have received great production from its pitching staff to begin the regular season. They are the first team in the modern era(since 1901) to have their starting pitchers allow fewer than 15 runs and no home runs in the first 11 home games of a season.

Great starting pitching was on display last night at home when the New York Mets hosted the Philadelphia Phillies. Tylor Megill surrendered 1 hit over 5.1 innings and matched his career high with 10 strikeouts. New York’s great pitching has propelled them to a 10-1 start at Citi Field. They have also won 5 straight home games. Will New York’s starting pitching maintain their high level of play?

The Mets have gotten off to a strong start in 2025. They lead the National League East with a 16-7 record. New York’s offense has been mediocre. They are 18th in batting average, 14th in home runs, and 16th in runs scored. Shortstop Francisco Lindor and First Baseman Pete Alonso have been a few of the team’s bright spots of offense. Lindor is hitting .325 in April and had 4 RBI in last night’s win. Alonso is 14th in the league in batting average, second in RBI, and third in OPS.

New York’s pitching staff has been its strength this year. They lead the league in ERA, second in strikeouts, and sixth in opposing batting average. Megill has been great for New York this year. He is fourth in the league in ERA. The New York Mets have been so good to begin the year on the mound. That is a positive sign because the rotation has been injury-riddled to begin the regular season. Starting Pitchers Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea have yet to make their season debut but are ramping up baseball activities.

Final Thoughts

New York returns to the diamond tonight for the middle game of their three-game set against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Mets will send Griffin Canning to the bump eyeing the team’s sixth straight victory at home. If the New York Mets can continue pitching at this level, and improve on offense, they will be a World Series contender.
