The New York Yankees are in a position where they need to win games, but are going to be using their bench earlier than expected against the Houston Astros. They are beginning a 12-game stretch where they are facing playoff teams, but a quick hook has taken one of their starters out of the game early. Let’s take a closer look at what exactly happened during Tuesday’s game that forced Jose Caballero to head to the locker room early.

New York Yankees News: Jose Caballero Ejected

The New York Yankees decided to start Jose Caballero at third base for Tuesday’s game against the Houston Astros, as he is a good defender, but also hits left-handed pitching better than third baseman Ryan McMahon. However, things went south for him during the top of the fourth inning as he was at the plate and attempted to check his swing.

Houston Astros starting pitcher Framber Valdez bounced a pitch in the dirt and it would hit Caballero in the right-handed batter’s box. However, the home plate umpire deemed that he swung the bat and would not be awarded first base as a result. Caballero would have a conversation with the umpire, but seemingly said the magic word that got him ejected. New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone would have some words with the home plate umpire as well before sending McMahon to the plate to replace him.

This is not the first time that Caballero was ejected since being traded to the New York Yankees as in August against the Tampa Bay Rays, he was ejected after believing a pitcher disengaged for a third time off the rubber while on base. Since joining the team, he has been able to produce as he has gone 10-for-37 with two home runs, five RBI, eight runs, and eight stolen bases on nine attempts over 23 games.

It will be interesting to see how the game unfolds, but the Yankees are going to be down one player for the remainder of Tuesday’s game against the Houston Astros.
