Several recent non-tendered players from other teams could be a fit for the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies recently decided to non-tender pitchers Michael Mercado and Daniel Robert. Additionally, the team agreed to a contract with catchers Rafael Marchán and Garrett Stubbs, with Stubbs on a split contract avoiding arbitration in the process. All other arbitration-eligible players on the Phillies were tendered contracts. The most notable player tendered a contract is Alec Bohm. It is expected that he will be traded at some point this offseason. The Phillies organization seems to view Bohm more highly than the other 29 teams. His being tendered a contract is not a complete surprise, but it would not have been entirely unexpected if he had been non-tendered.
The Phillies need to fill some open bullpen spots, and Nic Enright could be a part of that. With the Cleveland Guardians this season, Enright had a 2-1 record with a 2.03 ERA and one save in 27 games. He recorded a 1.161 WHIP with a 2.50 K/BB rate at the major league level. Meanwhile, he had a 1.38 ERA and a 1.077 WHIP with a 1.71 K/BB rate in 13 minor league outings in 2025, picking up one save. Enright did not give up a home run across 29 Triple-A appearances between 2024 and 2025. However, concerns with Enright are his strikeout-to-walk rate and the fact that he allows a decent amount of hard contact. Phillies pitching coach Caleb Cotham could help with these issues. Enright is entering his age-29 season.

With Nick Castellanos on the verge of being released, the Phillies could use a right-handed outfield bat. Adolis García was previously mentioned as a trade candidate for the Phillies at the deadline. With the Texas Rangers this season, García had a .227/.271/.394 line with 19 home runs and 75 RBI in 135 games. He recorded a 83 wRC+ and a .267 BABIP this year, along with a 0.21 BB/K rate. While García has had two consecutive down seasons, the right-handed-hitting outfield options are limited. Moreover, García has primarily played right field, the same position as Castellanos. Defensively, García had 16 DRS/1 OAA/2 FRV in right field this season. That is an area where García would be an upgrade over Castellanos. García will be in his age-33 season.

Garcia’s now ex-teammate, Jonah Heim, is a potential replacement at catcher if J.T. Realmuto does not re-sign with the Phillies. With the Rangers this past season, Heim had a .213/.271/.332 line with 11 home runs and 43 RBI in 124 games. He recorded a 69 wRC+ with a .243 BABIP this year, as well as a 0.36 BB/K rate. The free agent catcher pool is not deep after Realmuto. The Phillies’ signing Heim as a backup is unlikely, given that they have retained Marchán and Stubbs. Where Realmuto goes in free agency remains to be seen. Meanwhile, Heim had his worst defensive season in 2025, recording -7 DRS/-3 FRV. Furthermore, signing Heim would require a team believing that he could have a rebound season in 2026 after two down years. Heim will be in his age-31 season in 2026.
