Bryce Harper is a well-known Ohio State Buckeyes fan, and the opportunity to toy with a young Notre Dame Fighting Irish supporter during Monday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds was simply too good of an opportunity for the Philadelphia Phillies slugger to pass up.
After hitting a home run during Monday’s 7-1 victory, Harper made the Ohio State “O-H” gesture at the youngster after crossing the plate.

There was some confusion over Harper’s playful troll-job, but it turns out the superstar slugger chatted earlier with the youngster and learned he was a Notre Dame backer, according to the broadcast.
Harper has unsurprisingly turned into quite the avid Ohio State fan in light of how his wife, Kayla, played soccer at the Big Ten school. The Phillies star even made an appearance last year as the celebrity guest picker on “College GameDay” for the Ohio State-Michigan game.

In the end, both Harper and the young Notre Dame fan have to feel pretty good about their respective college football teams with Week 1 in the books.
The No. 5 Buckeyes put a predictable 45-21 thumping on the Florida Atlantic Owls on Saturday. The No. 9 Fighting Irish, meanwhile, escaped Kentucky with a 35-17 victory over the Louisville Cardinals on Monday night, a game in which Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book broke a Louisville cheerleader’s nose with an errant pass.
