One-time All-Star Jose Quintana 'among the most popular' pitchers on trade market, Blue Jays named 'possible landing spot'

The Toronto Blue Jays recently landed lefty reliever Anthony Banda in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Could Toronto soon be acquiring another southpaw hurler from Pittsburgh?

Quintana signed with the Pirates in the offseason before the lockout commenced and is in his 12th MLB season. After spending the first nine years of his career split between the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs -- earning his lone All-Star honor with the Pale Hose in 2016 -- Quintana was with both the Los Angeles Angels and San Francisco Giants in 2021.

The 33-year-old is 2-4 with a 3.33 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 74 strikeouts across 81 innings pitched in 16 starts. Quintana leads all Pittsburgh starters in ERA and WHIP among other categories.

The Colombian completed at least five innings for the fifth straight time out when he defeated the New York Yankees on Tuesday and he has allowed no more than four runs in a start every appearance in 2022.

The Blue Jays have been active on the trade and free agency market already this summer, signing former All-Star closer Sergio Romo in June, before picking up Banda over the weekend.
