One Veteran Who Should Make the Braves Opening Day Roster
Kim Klement Neitzel-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Braves are counting down the end of spring training as they are just two weeks away from opening day in Philadelphia. As the Braves are beginning to narrow moves to the roster every week, there is one veteran who has been one of the biggest standouts this spring training.

After having a strong start to his career in 2018 with the Los Angeles Angels, life in the big leagues came fast for David Fletcher, who found himself spending time back and forth between the majors and minor leagues and was even designated for assignment multiple times last season. Now after being traded to the Braves over the offseason, Fletcher is on a mission for a career resurgence.

Shortly after being traded to the Braves, Atlanta outrighted Fletcher from the major league roster. Just before camp started, he received a non-roster invite to camp and has been brilliant.

Throughout spring training, Fletcher has been one of the biggest surprises to come out of the Braves organization as his consistent hitting and reliant defense has been impressive throughout camp.

In thirteen games in spring training, Fletcher has slashed .310/.364/.345 while collecting 9 hits, three RBIs, three walks, and three stolen bases.

Aside from having a good eye, and a consistent batting average, Fletcher's defense has been praised throughout his career as he has held a nearly perfect fielding percentage at second base and shortstop. He can also play at third base and in the outfield, giving the Braves a utility player who can play almost anywhere.

Right now, one of the Braves' biggest weaknesses is the lack of depth across the infield. The addition of Fletcher, not only adds more depth, he also provides another veteran bat to a deep lineup and would be a great asset to a team with high hopes in 2024.
