The Baltimore Orioles play their first game of the regular season on March 27 against the Toronto Blue Jays. However, unfortunately for the American League East club, they will be without one of their top stars for the start of the campaign.

While speaking to reporters, including Baltimore Baseball's Rich Dubroff , Orioles general manager Mike Elias announced that star infielder Gunnar Henderson will begin the season on the injured list.

Henderson missing the start of the season is definitely less than ideal for the Orioles, but Elias also noted that they are hopeful that he will be good to return next week. Thus, it appears that Henderson is not dealing with a long-term issue.

Henderson has been sidelined since late February after suffering a strained intercostal muscle. Due to this, he only played in three Spring Training games this year, where he had one hit in six at-bats.

Once Henderson is given the green light to return, the Orioles will get a massive boost in their lineup. The 23-year-old is coming off an incredible season, posting new career highs with 37 home runs, 92 RBIs, 177 hits, and a .281 batting average. Due to his success at the plate, he was also named to the All-Star Game for the first time in his career.

It will now be fascinating to see when Henderson is good to go for the Orioles. Hopefully he suffers no setbacks as he continues to work on his recovery and gets back into game action for Baltimore shortly.
