Baltimore Orioles prospect Luis Guevara has died after he was involved in a tragic accident over the weekend.
The Orioles announced in a statement on Tuesday that Guevara has died at the age of 19.
“Luis was a beloved member of our organization, and we are devastated following his tragic passing,” Orioles general manager Mike Elias said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and teammates, and we ask for their continued privacy during this difficult time.”
Guevara was signed by the Orioles as an international free agent out of Venezuela in January 2023.

While the Orioles did not reveal a cause of death, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confirmed to the Baltimore Sun that Guevara was involved in a crash between two personal watercraft off Lido Key in Sarasota, Fla., on Sunday night. Two jet skis that were each carrying two people collided head on.
Two people suffered minor injuries, while Guevara and one other person were taken to the hospital. Guevara was later pronounced dead.
The Baltimore Sun reports that at least one other Orioles prospect was also involved in the crash.
Guevara appeared in 30 minor-league games this season, which was his first playing in the United States. The infielder batted .235 with 11 RBI, 8 stolen bases and a .380 OPS in 85 at-bats.
