Orioles' Trey Mancini confirms he will compete in 2021 Home Run Derby

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Trey Mancini continues to be one of the best stories of the 2021 MLB season.

Mancini took to Instagram Tuesday to confirm he will participate in next month's Home Run Derby scheduled to take place July 12 at Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies:

The 29-year-old missed the entire pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign after he was diagnosed with colon cancer but officially returned to the big-league club in April and was greeted with multiple standing ovations. Mancini heads into Tuesday evening batting .258 with 14 home runs and 52 RBI.

As noted by the MLB website, former Baltimore players Cal Ripken Jr. (1991) and Miguel Tejada (2004) previously won editions of the Derby. Mancini will now be part of a field set to include Colorado star shortstop Trevor Story, Los Angeles Angels two-way player Shohei Ohtani, and defending champion Pete Alonso of the New York Mets.
