The San Diego Padres will play the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday night. Before the game, San Diego announced multiple roster moves. Catcher Luis Campusano was placed on the injured list among the moves.
“We have selected C Rodolfo Durán from Triple-A El Paso, placed C Luis Campusano on the 10-day IL (left toe fracture) and transferred RHP Joe Musgrove to the 60-day IL,” the Padres announced.
The Padres are dealing with a number of injury concerns. Losing Campusano to injury is far from ideal.
Campusano, 27, is hitting .288/.362/.596 across 18 games played. He has three home runs as well. The veteran catcher has played in San Diego since 2020. He has provided the ball club with crucial depth during that span.
While Campusano may not be regarded as a star, he is a valuable player without question.
Duran, 28, will take Campusano’s place on the big league roster for now. He has never played at the MLB level. At Triple-A in 2026, Duran hit .238/.356/.429 in 23 games played. He has hit four home runs as well. San Diego is hopeful that he will help to provide depth at the MLB level.
The Padres have some questions, but the team has performed well overall. San Diego is currently only a half-game behind the Los Angeles Dodgers for the lead in the National League West. At 22-14, the Padres look like a legitimate contending ball club. Nevertheless, there is still plenty of work to do.
San Diego’s game against the Cardinals on Thursday night is scheduled for 10:10 PM EST.
