San Diego Padres pitcher Jhony Brito has been sidelined since the start of the season, and that is, unfortunately, not going to change any time soon.
While speaking to reporters, including MLB.com's AJ Cassavell , Padres general manager A.J. Preller shared that Brito underwent UCL internal brace surgery in April and had his flexor tendon repaired. With this, Preller announced that Brito is done for the season and is likely to miss the beginning stages of the 2026 campaign.
This is undoubtedly a tough blow for Brito, as the 27-year-old pitcher has been on the path to cementing himself as a full-time major leaguer. He appeared in a career-high 26 games last season with the Padres, posting a 1-2 record, a 4.12 ERA, and 29 strikeouts.
Brito was acquired by the Padres in December 2023 as a part of the deal that sent superstar outfielder Juan Soto to the New York Yankees. As a rookie with the Yankees during the 2023 season, Brito put together a 9-7 record, a 4.28 ERA, one save, and 72 strikeouts in 25 appearances.
Brito will now spend this season focusing on his recovery and will look to make a positive impact with the Padres once he is given the green light to return next season.
