Padres rookie Fernando Tatis Jr. makes history in MLB debut

The San Diego Padres and their fans have been waiting a long time for this. Once the team broke camp with Fernando Tatis Jr. on its roster, it became inevitable.

One of the best young players in the game, Tatis Jr. can absolutely rake. San Francisco Giants ace Madison Bumgarner found that out first-hand on Opening Day.

The 20-year-old Tatis collected a single in each of his first two at-bats Thursday afternoon, including a bunt single in the fourth inning.

In doing so, Tatis Jr. became the youngest player since Hall of Famer Robin Yount in 1975 to have a multi-hit game on Opening Day.

Talk about starting what should be a stellar career in fashion. A prodigy of sorts, Tatis Jr. figures to be a centerpiece in Southern California for years to come.

If his initial at-bats in the majors are any indication, that could happen sooner rather than later.
