Paul DeJong is back in the big leagues.

After being added to the taxi squad for their weekend series against the Washington Nationals, the St. Louis Cardinals opened up a spot for him on Saturday when they shipped infielder Edmundo Sosa off to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Since returning to the majors, DeJong hasn’t skipped a beat.

He was sent down in early May after hitting just .130 to start the season but went on a tear in Triple-A Memphis.

DeJong has gone deep in each of his first two games back with the Cardinals.

Nationals insider Mark Zuckerman tweeted an update after DeJong went deep in yesterday’s game.

DeJong Is Back

The return of DeJong could really boost the Cardinals offense.

Clearly, he found a way to fix what had been going wrong for him while he was down in Memphis.

He quite literally came back with a bang.

DeJong was a Rookie of the Year candidate in 2017 and earned an All-Star nod in 2019.

His production began to dip after that, ultimately resulting in him losing the starting job at shortstop last year and being demoted this year.

But he appears to have rediscovered his stroke, and this could turn out to be a huge boost for the Cardinals as they try to gain ground on the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central.

It’s nice to see him hitting home runs again.

It’s certainly a welcomed sight for Cardinals fans.

At the very least, DeJong’s return provides the Cards with a little extra offense which was severely lacking with Sosa.

But the former All-Star is back in the big leagues and ready to help guide the Cardinals to the finish line.
