Paul Goldschmidt Matches Albert Pujols In Cardinals History

Paul Goldschmidt has been on a tear since the month of May began.

The St. Louis Cardinals slugging first baseman earned himself National League Player of the Month honors for May and has not skipped a beat since the calendar switched over to June.

After missing Tuesday’s game due to lower back stiffness, Goldy was back in the lineup on Wednesday as the team’s designated hitter.

In the first inning, he blasted a two-run homer to get the Cardinals started against the Milwaukee Brewers.

In doing so, Goldschmidt reached 60 RBI on the season.

High Heat Stats tweeted about Goldschmidt’s accomplishment and how he matched Albert Pujols and Scott Rolen in Cardinals history as the third player to have 60 RBI in their first 70 games of the year.

Paul Goldschmidt is the first Cardinals batter with 60 RBI in the team’s first 70 games of a season since Albert Pujols, who did it in 2001, 2003, 2006, and 2009. The only other Cardinal to do it in the last 20 years was Scott Rolen in 2004.

Goldy Matches Two Cards Legends

Anytime you can match two of the greatest Cardinals in history, you know you’re doing something right.

Goldschmidt just isn’t slowing down, even after a bit of a tough series in Boston over the weekend.

Pujols accomplished this feat in 2001, 2003, and 2006, while Rolen accomplished it in 2004.

This is only Goldschmidt’s fourth year with the Cardinals, and he is already in some legendary company with this accomplishment.

The Cardinals won last night’s game by a final of 5-4 and moved back into sole possession of first place in the NL Central division.

Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado led the way with their two-run homers and the bullpen made the lead stick as Johan Oviedo finally earned his first major league win.

But Goldschmidt just isn’t slowing down.

When he’s clicking, the Cardinals can have a very dangerous lineup that can do a ton of damage at the plate.

We’ll see if this hot streak continues.
