To the surprise of absolutely nobody, Paul Skenes has been named to the National League All-Star team.
Skenes has been arguably the best pitcher in baseball this season and has been selected to the All-Star team for the second time in his two year career.
Skenes has been absolutely untouchable this season. He's made 19 starts and has posted a 1.94 ERA with 125 strikeouts in 116.0 innings of work. He has decimated lineups week in and week out, but the Pirates are so bad that it hasn't translated to wins.
In 19 starts, Skenes has a 4-7 record. In his last 15 starts, Skenes has just one win, but has allowed more than one run just four times. He's allowed no earned runs in four of those outings, but has been awarded with just one win in those contests.
In the month of May, Skenes went 1-3 despite posting a 1.91 ERA in six outings. In June, Skenes went 0-2 despite posting a 2.05 ERA in five outings. He's made two starts in July already and is 0-0 even though he hasn't given up a run.
It's hard to argue that there's any better pitcher in the MLB right now, so Skenes definitely deserves his spot on the All-Star team.
