Pete Alonso creates his own historic MLB club

A new wild statistical club has been created in the big leagues, thanks to Baltimore Orioles slugger Pete Alonso.

The star first baseman hit not one, but two home runs in Baltimore’s 4-3 victory to open their series against the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Md.

With those home runs, he reached the 40-HR plateau in a season for the fourth time in his career — and for the first time since he took his talents to the American League.

According to OptaSTATS, Alonso also became the first player in big-league history to record at least 40 dingers in each of his first seasons in different leagues.

During his rookie season with the New York Mets in 2019, Alonso launched 53 home runs to lead the majors and won the National League Rookie of the Year Award. 

With five more games left in the 2026 regular season, Alonso can add to his home run total. 

Baltimore is scheduled to face the Blue Jays in the second game of the series on Tuesday, with Toronto sending future Baseball Hall of Famer Max Scherzer to the mound.

For what it’s worth, Alonso is just 4-for-24 with zero home runs against Scherzer in his career, but it might be his lucky day.
