Pete Alonso Makes Mets History in Diamondbacks Game

Pete Alonso tied New York Mets legend Ed Kranepool for fifth place on the franchise’s all-time RBI list after launching a go-ahead solo homer off Eduardo Rodríguez in the bottom of the fourth inning against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday night. That blast marked Alonso’s 614th career RBI and underscored the first baseman’s offseason work on retooling his swing and fine-tuning his mechanics.

Although the 2025 season is still in its early stages, Alonso has reminded fans why he’s an All-Star talent. In just 107 at-bats, he’s compiled a .346 batting average with seven home runs, 28 RBIs and a staggering 1.126 OPS.

His approach has remained refreshingly simple: “Pitch to pitch, at-bat to at-bat. I just want to make quality swing decisions and put the ball in play hard whenever pitchers come over the plate.”

So far, that philosophy has paid dividends, delivering fireworks for Mets Nation on a near-nightly basis.

The Mets boast a 13-1 record at Citi Field, have won 10 of their last 12 games, and tied the National League record for most wins in April with 19. Looking to build on a 2024 season that saw them lose in the National League Championship Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Mets look poised to make a deep postseason run this October.

If Alonso can stay healthy and continue to lead by example, he’ll keep this clubhouse—and this city—behind him as the postseason looms. After all, it’s shaping up to be an exciting season for New York.
