Pete Alonso Sends 6-Word Juan Soto Message After Dodgers' Loss to Mets

The New York Mets capped off their Memorial Day Weekend homestand with a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Citi Field, taking the series two games to one and sending a message against the defending World Series champions.

In a tightly contested game, it was Pete Alonso who provided the jolt. With two outs in the bottom of the first, and after a fielding error extended the inning, Alonso unloaded on a hanging curveball from Dodgers left-hander Landon Knack. The two-run shot to left was Alonso’s 10th homer of the season and the 236th of his career—but, more importantly, it snapped a frustrating stretch of 16 games and 65 at-bats without a home run, the longest drought of his career.

Alonso’s homer put the Mets ahead early, and they never looked back. A botched Dodgers double play in the third inning allowed the Mets to tack on another run, stretching the lead to 3-1. From there, New York leaned on its defense and pitching to finish the job.

It was Juan Soto who reached on the error ahead of Alonso's homer, and the first baseman had a simple message for him after the game.

“Juan did a great job hustling," Alonso said.

Though Knack (2-2) turned in a solid performance—allowing just one earned run and retiring 11 straight at one point—the Mets capitalized on every small opening. With crisp defense behind them, Mets pitchers held the Dodgers to minimal damage, and the team showed poise throughout a high-stakes series.

Alonso’s resurgence is also notable within the context of his strong 2025 campaign. Through 196 at-bats, the Mets first baseman is hitting .291 with 10 home runs, 40 RBIs, and a .927 OPS—production that remains elite even amid the recent power outage.

The Mets (32-21) won’t have long to celebrate. In seven days, they’ll meet the Dodgers again—this time in Los Angeles for a four-game set.
