Pete Alonso Sounds Off About Mets Future

Pete Alonso and the New York Mets are currently locked into a tough battle in the National League East division race. Right now, they trail the Philadelphia Phillies by five games.

If the season were to end today, the Mets would be in the Wild Card. A big part of the success that they have had this season has been the play of Alonso.

Back in February, New York and Alonso agreed to a two-year deal to have him return to the team in free agency. However, his future with the franchise could be in jeopardy.

Amid the rumblings about the Mets potentially choosing to part ways with Alonso during the upcoming MLB offseason, Alonso took some time to speak out on his future. He clearly would prefer to stick with New York if given the choice, but he knows that decision isn't up to him.

"I love the city of New York," Alonso said. "I love this fanbase. It's been great. The business is the business side, if they choose to go in another direction. For me, it's been an absolute treat and pleasure here."

So far this season, Alonso has played in 119 games. He has hit 28 home runs to go along with 96 RBI's, while also hitting .267/.352/.528.

Those numbers show just how impactful and valuable Alonso has been for the Mets this season. Moving on from him would be a tough decision to make. Quite frankly, it would also be a step in the right direction with the way the 30-year-old star has played.

Should New York choose to part ways with Alonso, there would be a nice market that would open up for him. He may not get superstar caliber money, but there would be a place for him in quite a few different lineups around the league.

Expect to continue hearing more rumors and rumblings about Alonso as the offseason draws closer. For now, he's focused on helping the Mets win and enjoying what could be his last season with the team.
