One of Alabama's most noteworthy alums is reportedly giving back in a big way to the school that helped launch his professional golf career.
On Tuesday, the university announced that it would be accepting a $1 million commitment from the two-time PGA champion to the Crimson Standard in order to upgrade facilities for both the men's and women's golf teams in Tuscaloosa.
Thomas played at Alabama from 2011-13 and helped lead the Tide to the NCAA Championship in 2013, before turning pro and going on to win the PGA in 2017 and '22.
In a release shared Tuesday, Thomas spoke glowingly of the place that helped shape him into one of the world's top golfers.
“It’s hard to put into words the love and feelings I have for The University of Alabama,” Thomas shared. “I was so lucky to be able to spend two incredible years playing under [men ’s] Coach [Jay] Seawell."
"He and his wife, Stephanie, were, and still are, like family to me," the 32-year-old continued. "This dream of making the Crimson Reserve couldn’t be done without Coach Seawell and [women ’s] Coach [Mic] Potter and what they’ve done with the programs. I’m honored to have a very small part in it.”
Thomas' $1 million donation also received thank yous from both Alabama AD Greg Byrne, as well as Coach Seawell.
“Alabama Athletics is incredibly grateful to Justin for his commitment and support of the Crimson Reserve and our golf programs,” Byrne said. “We are proud to have one of our finest student-athletes give back to his sport, both financially and with his input on designing our world-class facility.”
“I am so proud of Justin and thankful for what he’s meant to our program and The University of Alabama,” Seawell added. “He is a big part of the legacy of Alabama golf. It means so much that he would be willing to give back to the golf programs. ... We could not be more grateful for his generosity and love of The University of Alabama.”

The Crimson Standard is a 10-year, $600 million initiative that was launched in 2018 to create a better experience from Alabama's student-athletes. The proposed renovations have also touched aspects of Bryant-Denny Stadium, as well as player facilities of the men's and women's basketball teams.
Alabama's men's golf program has made appearances in the NCAA Championships almost every year since 2002 — as have the Crimson Tide's women.
