The Philadelphia Phillies have once again clinched a spot in the postseason and are the NL East champions. These are roster projections for the Phillies in the postseason, assuming everyone is healthy.
(4) Cristopher Sanchez, Ranger Suarez, Aaron Nola, Jesus Luzardo
Nola has been the worst starting pitcher this season in the group, but with his postseason pedigree, he is sure to get a start. Apart from him, everyone else seems to be a lock to get a majority of the starts. Luzardo and Suarez have bullpen experience, so they could have an even bigger role than just starting.
The great rotation the Phillies have built will be without their ace, Zack Wheeler, for the playoff run. The superstar had his season cut short after being diagnosed with a blood clot in his shoulder.
(8) Jhoan Duran, Matt Strahm, Orion Kerkering, David Robertson, Tanner Banks, Walker Buehler, Tim Mayza, Lou Trivino
Philadelphia’s bullpen is greatly improved from the beginning of the season, in large part due to the additions of Duran and Robertson. The only spot up for discussion here is Max Lazar over Lou Trivino, which is really a coin flip at this point.
(2) JT Realmuto, Rafael Marchan
Marchan needs to be on the roster just in case something happens to Realmuto, but he will not play if everything goes well. Realmuto has always gotten a large postseason workload, and that is certainly not expected to change.
(6) Bryce Harper, Bryson Stott, Trea Turner, Alec Bohm, Edmundo Sosa, Otto Kemp
Turner, Bohm, and Sosa getting healthy are big necessities down the stretch for Philadelphia. Having three infielders go down with injuries at the same time is rough, but the Phillies should get them all back for the postseason.
The main discussion here would be Weston Wilson over Kemp. Wilson has been on a clutch streak as of late, sparking multiple rallies vs the Los Angeles Dodgers. He also has more defensive versatility than Kemp, which may be the deciding factor if the Phillies decide to go with him.
(6) Brandon Marsh, Harrison Bader, Max Kepler, Nick Castellanos, Johan Rojas, Kyle Schwarber (DH)
The outfield for the Phillies is much improved once they acquired Bader and began to platoon Castellanos and Kepler. They went from one of the worst groups in the sport to a group of players contributing from the bottom of the lineup every game.
Rojas has the perfect skillset for a bench player in October. His elite speed and defense make him a great contributor late in games. His addition to the roster may irritate some who complain about his bat, but he won’t be seeing many opportunities in that regard.
The Phillies don’t have many spots up for discussion on their postseason roster, but the few there are could have massive implications. Rojas pinch running late in the game and scoring on a ball in the gap. Trivino coming in during the fifth inning after a starter struggled and shut down a rally. These decisions seem small, but they will play a role in whether Philadelphia wins the World Series.
