Phillies Announce Bryce Harper Update Before Nationals Game

Philadelphia Phillies superstar Bryce Harper has made the move back to right field so that trade deadline acquisition Luis Arraez can occupy a spot on the infield.

That is the kind of mentality Harper has at this point in his career, still searching for his first World Series title and willing to do whatever it takes to help the team improve. With Arraez in the lineup every day, the Phillies are one of the most complete teams in baseball.

Harper himself has continued to shine in his 15th big-league season. Across 115 games, the 33-year-old has posted a .252 batting average, .361 on-base percentage, .857 OPS, 24 home runs and 68 RBIs.

During Wednesday's game against the Washington Nationals, Harper had an injury scare. While attempting a head-first dive into second base, his hand got stuck in the dirt and was trapped underneath his body.

He immediately grimaced in pain and was checked on by team trainers. However, he elected to remain in the game and played his spot in right field. Given the injury occurred in the 10th inning, Harper never had another at-bat, which is the true test of whether he was okay.

Fortunately, he is right back in the lineup for Thursday's matchup with Washington. Manager Don Mattingly also provided an encouraging update when speaking with reporters, revealing that Harper is fine and it will not be an issue moving forward (h/t Ty Daubert of Phillies Nation).

Phillies got a “sigh of relief,” Don Mattingly said. Andrew Painter got imaging and is expected to make his next start.

Derek Hill is sore but not injured. He could be available off the bench today if all continues to go right pregame.
