The Philadelphia Phillies offense features many superstars, yet Kyle Schwarber has stood out as the team’s best hitter in his fourth season with the organization. The Phillies have become incredibly reliant on his offensive contributions and will likely have to pay a steep price to keep him in Philadelphia, as he’s set to hit unrestricted free agency in the offseason.

Schwarber enters the final three games of the season with a chance to break Phillies legend Ryan Howard’s single-season home run record of 58. He currently sits at 56 (most in NL), meaning he’d need to hit three more home runs. The 32-year-old left-handed slugger has had his best season with the Phillies, collecting his second All-Star selection as a member of the team. Schwarber has appeared in all 159 possible games entering Friday for the Phillies, proving to be a reliable piece in the lineup as his teammates have missed substantial time with injury.

Ahead of the weekend series with the Minnesota Twins, Schwarber has posted a .245 batting average, .369 on-base percentage, .943 OPS and 132 RBIs (leads MLB). Before the opening game of the series, the Phillies honored Schwarber at the ballpark for his efforts off the field.

The team also announced on X, “Kyle Schwarber is our 2025 Major League Community Service Award winner! This is the highest community honor in the Phillies organization, and recognizes one player for his character and community involvement.”

Schwarber has meant a lot to the community in Philadelphia and has expressed his desire to remain with the organization after this season. The fans have embraced him and he has embraced the city with his commitment to giving back to his supporters.

The award is presented annually to the Phillies player who best exemplifies leadership, integrity, and a genuine commitment to making a difference off the field. It highlights charitable efforts, community outreach and the ability to positively impact lives beyond baseball. Schwarber’s involvement with youth programs, veterans’ initiatives and local fundraising events made him a clear choice for the honor, reflecting the values the organization strives to uphold.

Schwarber previously played for the Chicago Cubs, Washington Nationals and Boston Red Sox before the Phillies inked him to a four-year, 79 million dollar contract ahead of the 2022 season. It’s safe to say Schwarber has surpassed expectations and his deal has been viewed as one of the best in MLB.
