The Philadelphia Phillies’ 2025 season ended in disappointment with an NLDS loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. As the organization looks to regroup during an offseason full of impactful decisions, none carries more weight than whether Kyle Schwarber will return. With several lucrative deals on the books, Schwarber stood out as the best hitter on the roster this year. He played all 162 games at the top of Philadelphia’s lineup, posting a .240 batting average, .365 on-base percentage and a .928 OPS, which ranked fifth in MLB.
The 32-year-old left-handed slugger led the National League with 56 home runs and all of baseball with 132 RBIs. He delivered that production in the final year of his four-year, $79 million contract signed ahead of the 2022 season. Now, Schwarber enters unrestricted free agency with a larger deal likely to be a top priority.
As Schwarber prepares to field offers from teams across the league, the Phillies took to social media to recognize the veteran slugger for his efforts in 2025. The MLB Players Association announced its annual award winners, and Schwarber was named the National League’s Outstanding Player. His teammate, right-handed starting pitcher Aaron Nola, was also honored as Philanthropist of the Year.
Philadelphia celebrated both players’ achievements on X. “Two of the best on and off the field. Congratulations to Nols and Schwarbs on their @MLBPA Players Choice Awards!” the team wrote.

The Players Choice Awards are voted on annually by active players, recognizing excellence both on and off the field. With only one Outstanding Player selected per league, the honor marks a significant achievement for Schwarber.
Schwarber is no stranger to recognition for his work at the plate. Over his 11-year career, he has earned three All-Star selections, a Silver Slugger Award and an All-Star Game MVP. He has shown no signs of slowing down, and if Philadelphia is unable to retain him, it would leave a major hole at the top of the lineup.
His four-year contract with the Phillies proved to be a major success. Over that span, Schwarber recorded 429 hits, 187 home runs and 434 RBIs—his highest totals with any team. Before joining Philadelphia, he spent time with the Chicago Cubs, Washington Nationals and Boston Red Sox.
