Phillies-Brewers Trade Idea Brings Beloved Outfielder Back to Philadelphia

In their 2022 run to the World Series, the Philadelphia Phillies drew from a number of unexpected sources, including Aaron Nola, Zack Wheeler, Bailey Falter and Kyle Schwarber.

One player who slipped quietly into the night after an iconic Phillies tenure was Rhys Hoskins, who was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers after the 2022 season.

Hoskins had his fair share of legendary moments during that postseason run, including his emphatic bat slam on a three-run home run  off Spencer Strider in the NLDS, and a solo home run off Lance McCullers in Game 3 of the World Series.

A recent trade proposal saw Hoskins return back to Philly from the Milwaukee Brewers. Hoskins, after missing all of 2023 with a torn ACL and hitting to a measly .214 average in 2024, has been mashing for Milwaukee in 2025.

Hoskins is batting .290 with an .880 OPS, and his May has been even hotter. Hoskins has four home runs, 14 RBIs and a .959 OPS in 20 games this month. Hoskins has seen his launch angle sweet spot percentage skyrocket from 2024 to 2025, going from 29.7% (8th percentile) in 2024 to 45.2% (98th percentile).

Hoskins loved his time in Philly, with the slugger saying: "I'll always be able to call Philly home," after signing a two-year deal with the Brewers in January 2024.

With the Phillies recently overtaking the Mets for first place in the NL East, they have very few holes in their roster to patch up. One of those, however, is the outfield, which has seen lackluster production from Brandon Marsh, Johan Rojas and Weston Wilson.

Star first baseman Bryce Harper has said he'd be willing to go back to the outfield if it would help the team win, which has some fans talking about a reunion with Hoskins.

The Brewers, on the other hand, are still surprisingly competitive despite a laundry list of injuries and a reshuffling of talent during the offseason.

At one game behind .500, is there a trade situation which sees major league players go to Milwaukee for Hoskins, not unlike the Orioles-Phillies trade for Austin Hays and Seranthony Dominguez a year ago?
