Phillies Connected to Surprising Offseason Blockbuster Move

The Philadelphia Phillies are waiting to find out who they will play in the MLB postseason. After earning a bye due to their stellar regular season, all of their focus is on making a run at a World Series win.

However, it's never too early to begin looking ahead to the offseason. In fact, the front office is undoubtedly already looking into what they can do to improve the team even more.

With that being said, an interesting suggestion has been made for the Phillies.

Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report has named Philadelphia as one of the top potential offseason suitors for New York Mets star slugging first baseman Pete Alonso.

"What if they fail to re-sign Kyle Schwarber, though, resulting in a void at DH to be filled by Harper and/or Castellanos?" Miller wrote. "Doesn't Alonso's 158 home runs since the beginning of 2022 become the logical top target to backfill the 187 home runs Schwarber has hit during that time?"

Throughout the course of the 2025 MLB season with the Mets, Alonso played in 162 games. He hit 38 home runs to go along with 126 RBI, while also batting .272/.347/.525 with a .871 OPS.

At 30 years old, Alonso still has some good years left in him. Picking him up would be a great addition for the Phillies, especially if they end up losing Kyle Schwarber to another team in free agency.

Hopefully, Philadelphia is able to retain Schwarber. That would be the ideal scenario. But, pivoting to Alonso would not be a bad consolation prize.

Obviously, this is just an idea at this point in time. The offseason hasn't arrived and the Phillies have some playoff games to win before worrying about who they're going to sign. It's just something to keep an eye on in the coming weeks and months.
