Phillies Fan Favorite All-Star Gets $20 Million Update Amid Contract Rumors

The Philadelphia Phillies have the best rotation in MLB this season. While Zack Wheeler and Christopher Sanchez are incredible, one pitcher stands out as being dominant since his return to the big leagues.

That pitcher is lefty Ranger Suarez. He's been one of the best pitchers in baseball since his return to the mound. But, there's one issue. He's set to be a free agent after the 2025 season.

Based on how he'hisng, Suarez will likely earn a major extension. Tony Blengino of Forbes.com presented a potential range for a Suarez extension and the potential for Philadelphia to re-sign the southpaw.

"But given Suarez’s dedication to the organization," Blengino writes, "You might not have to. A three-year commitment at $15-20 million per season might get it done, and might be the sweet spot to keep the player happy while also offering the club the potential to reap value above the contract cost."

While Suarez would likely be offered top dollar on the open market, he's stated he would prefer to stay in Philadelphia, the team he signed with as a teenager.

Sitting in the $20 million range for Suarez would be a lot of money tied up in the rotation. But, with Wheeler set to retire in the next few years, and Aaron Nola struggling on his new deal, Suarez might be very valuable to the team.

Another considerable factor behind a potential Suarez deal is that he's a lefty. The Phillies' top pitchers, Wheeler, Nola, and top prospect Andrew Painter, are all righties. Sanchez is a strong lefty, as is Jesus Luzardo, but good lefty starters aren't easy to come by, so losing Suarez would sting for Philadelphia.

Keeping Suarez in Philadelphia would be a huge move for the rotation. It'd solidify a strength for the team and always give the Phillies a fighting chance in any year or series they play.

If Suarez can put his injuries behind him, there would be no reason not to spend $20 million per season on Suarez. He's one of the game's premier lefty pitchers and would be an incredible piece to have for the next three-plus seasons if he and the Phillies can work out an extension.
