Phillies Fan Favorite Wins Player of the Week

The Philadelphia Phillies had a player of the week in their organization as Jake Cave was named the International League’s Player of the Week for May 22-28.

Cave, 30, is playing for the Phillies’ Triple-A affiliate in Lehigh Valley.

The award was a culmination of an incredible month for the former Major Leaguer, who started the season with Phillies but was optioned in early May.

He is on a 21-game hitting streak and is among the tops in the International league in batting average (.437, 1st ), on-base percentage (.524, 3rd ), slugging percentage (.862, 1st ), OPS (1.386, 1st ), runs (31, 1st ), doubles (16, 1st), home runs (7, t-3rd), and RBI (22, t-5th).

Last week he batted .474 (9-for-19) with a .630 on-base percentage and 1.211 slugging percentage. He hit five doubles, three home runs, drove in seven runs and scored 11 runs. He also walked seven times and struck out four times. He helped the Iron Pigs beat Buffalo in their series, 4-2.

Last week he ranked 5th in the International League in batting average, 1st in runs scored, tied-1st in doubles, tied-2nd in homers, 2nd in OBP, 1st in SLG, and 1st in OPS.

The Phillies claimed Cave off waivers in December and he made the Opening-Day roster. With the Phillies he batted .222 with a home run and nine RBI before begin sent down to Lehigh Valley.
