Jesús Luzardo earned his first career All-Star selection Tuesday, joining five Philadelphia Phillies teammates on the National League roster for the 2026 Midsummer Classic.

The 28-year-old left-hander was named a replacement after Jacob Misiorowski, Max Meyer and Paul Skenes withdrew from the NL squad. Luzardo learned the news from interim manager Don Mattingly a few hours before Tuesday's series opener against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park.

The selection carries extra meaning for Phillies fans. The 2026 MLB All-Star Game is hosted at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, meaning Luzardo will make his first Midsummer Classic appearance in front of his own crowd. It is a moment he said he has been imagining since childhood.

Luzardo becomes the sixth Phillies player named to the 2026 All-Star team, giving Philadelphia the most All-Stars of any club in baseball.

Through 18 starts this season, Luzardo is 7-4 with a 3.75 ERA and 125 strikeouts in 103 1/3 innings. His 96.7 mph average fastball velocity leads all qualified left-handed starters in the majors.

He has allowed fewer than three earned runs in nine of his last 10 starts, lowering his ERA from 5.77 on May 8. Over the last five starts specifically, he owns a 1.78 ERA with 45 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings.

Luzardo was acquired from the Miami Marlins ahead of the 2025 season. He later signed a five-year, $135 million extension with Philadelphia through 2031.

The Phillies have gone 36-14 in games started by Luzardo, Cristopher Sánchez or Zack Wheeler this season. That trio has driven Philadelphia's push to the top of the National League East.

Luzardo is expected to pitch at some point during next Tuesday's All-Star Game. He will take the mound in the same ballpark where he committed to the Phillies' future just months ago.
