Phillies Get Good News on Luis Robert Jr. After Mets Report

The Philadelphia Phillies have had interest in Luis Robert Jr. over the past few years.

The Chicago White Sox hadn’t made him available prior to this season, but the expectation around Major League Baseball is for him to be dealt at this year's deadline.

After those latest reports, Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report recently predicted that Robert would be traded, adding that while he might not be the same type of player he was in 2023, a team could be interested in hoping that a change of scenery could turn things around for a player who was once viewed as a potential star in Major League Baseball.

“Even Robert is aware of how much he's tanked his value, as he's only fallen further after a career-worst season in 2024. Yet he's still only 27, and both the bat speed and the foot speed are still there. Maybe he'll never be the 38-homer slugger from 2023 again, but a team could acquire him and hope there will be nowhere to go but up after the change of scenery,” he wrote.

Robert also has interest from the New York Mets, according to a report from Bob Nightengale. If the Phillies want him, they have to be careful that the Mets don't send a package to Chicago that would interest them.

However, back to Robert, he's hitting just .177 with a 58 OPS+. While he's played in 55 games and looks to be on pace to play the most he's ever played in a season, he just hasn't figured it out offensively.

There are other tools to be excited about, like leading the American League in stolen bases with 21, but a 58 OPS+ for a guy who can't stay on the field is far from ideal.
