As noted many times, the Philadelphia Phillies don't realistically have a long time to continue contending at the highest level. Sure, some of their core is locked up for much of the next few years, but unless the Phillies make the right moves to put pieces around them, this could be one of the final seasons of them having a chance to compete.
Not only are they getting older, but Philadelphia hasn't found too much success in the postseason in recent years.
That should only mean one thing for Dave Dombrowski, who has done a decent job. Dombrowski, however, is often much better in the offseason than he is at the deadline. Making trades in the offseason is easier, but there's no excuse for what he's done at the deadlines.
If there's been one issue for Phillies fans in recent years, it's the fact that Dombrowski hasn't done enough to put together a competent lineup and other issues roster-wise over the past few trade deadlines.
However, some believe that this will change this year, with Bleacher Report predicting that the Phillies will realize they don't have much time to continue competing at a high level, causing them to go all in at the deadline.
“What's for sure is this: Between the club's closing championship window and Dave Dombrowski's love of action, the deadline won't be a boring time in Philly,” wrote Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report.
Regarding what the Phillies could be looking for, it would make sense for them to look for another arm or two, whether it be in the bullpen or the rotation. Having arms is never a bad thing, but the Phillies need a center fielder.
Hopefully, they find both.
