It doesn't seem likely that the Philadelphia Phillies will come to an agreement on a long-term extension with Kyle Schwarber before the end of the season. There's a possibility that the left-handed slugger could return to Philadelphia next season, but until the Phillies make a decision, there will be questions about that happening, too.
Given the power numbers Schwarber has put up throughout his career, there's a very good chance many teams in Major League Baseball will be looking for a player of his caliber.
Even in this season, despite striking out 29 times, he has eight home runs. The strikeout issues will be prevalent for Schwarber throughout the rest of his career, more than likely, but he's also elite at drawing walks, evident by his league-leading 106 a year ago.
Searching for potential landing spots and teams that could use him in the future if he doesn't return to the Phillies, Hunter Mulholland of Newsweek linked the Toronto Blue Jays to him, adding how they've been looking for a power bat over the past few winters.
“Schwarber could still find himself in red pinstripes next season, but the other suitors will be doing everything in their power to sway him to their city. The Toronto Blue Jays have missed out on plenty of high-value free agents the past two seasons, and with their link to Pete Alonso last winter, Schwarber may be at the top of their list to bring north of the border,” he wrote.
The Blue Jays haven't had any luck finding a star in free agency, and while Schwarber doesn't fit that definition, he’s somebody who’d bring a different dynamic to this lineup.
After signing Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to a long-term extension, adding someone like Schwarber around him would make plenty of sense from the Blue Jays' perspective.
