The Philadelphia Phillies are entering the offseason with several impactful decisions to make. The biggest, however, is clearly the future of left-handed designated hitter Kyle Schwarber, who is set to hit unrestricted free agency after four years in Philadelphia. While Schwarber weighs his options, he has positioned himself well for a lucrative long-term deal.

The 32-year-old veteran was the most consistent hitter in Philadelphia’s lineup and remarkably durable, appearing in all 162 games. His performance never dipped, finishing the season with a .240 batting average, .365 on-base percentage, .928 OPS, 56 home runs and 132 RBIs. Schwarber came just two home runs short of tying Ryan Howard’s franchise record and ranked second in the league in home runs behind Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh.

As Schwarber enters a crucial offseason, the Phillies made the decision to extend him the qualifying offer, a one-year deal worth $22.025 million (h/t Jeff Passan of ESPN). Schwarber has until November 18 to accept or decline the offer.

If he turns it down and signs with another team, the Phillies would receive draft pick compensation, typically awarded after the fourth round of the MLB Draft.

While the offer reflects Schwarber’s value, he is widely expected to decline it. At 32, he remains one of the most dangerous left-handed power hitters in the game and is coming off a career year. His blend of elite on-base skills and home run power makes him a prime target for contenders looking to add a middle-of-the-order bat. Schwarber’s durability and postseason experience only strengthen his appeal, and he is likely to command a multi-year deal on the open market.

The Phillies will face steep competition to retain him. Schwarber has become a fan favorite in Philadelphia, known for his leadership, clutch hitting and connection with the city. While the qualifying offer keeps the door open for a return, it also marks the beginning of what could be a competitive bidding process for one of the league’s most consistent sluggers.

Regardless of what comes next, Schwarber’s tenure with the Phillies has been the best of his 11-year career. He has previously suited up for the Chicago Cubs, Washington Nationals and Boston Red Sox. He has earned three All-Star selections and one Silver Slugger Award in MLB. Schwarber is a finalist for National League MVP this year, a clear sign that he remains in his prime.
