Phillies' Kyle Schwarber Reaches Career Milestone as Free Agency Looms

The fourth overall pick in the 2014 MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs, Schwarber made his MLB debut on June 16, 2015. Throughout his 11 seasons with the Cubs, Washington Nationals, Boston Red Sox, and Phillies, Schwarber has slashed .231/.346/.494 with 309 home runs and an OPS of .840. 

He was also named to the NL All-Star team in 2021 and 2022, and won a World Series with the Cubs in 2016. 

This season, Schwarber is off to a fast start for the defending NL East champs. Through 85 games, he's hitting .250 with a team-leading 25 home runs and 57 RBIs. 

According to the MLBPA website, fewer than 10% in baseball history have played for a decade or more. 

In addition to Schwarber, Phillies teammate Aaron Nola, Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Kendall Graveman, Detroit Tigers utility player Javy Báez, Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Tommy Pham, Kansas City Royals slugger Mark Canha, and St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Steven Matz achieved the 10-years of service mark in June. 

Despite being an impending free agent for the third time in his career, Schwarber is focusing on helping the Phillies reach the postseason once again.  

"You want to make sure that you give the best that you can to your team," Schwarber told Fox Sports recently. "Because if it is the end, how do you want to be remembered? Do you want to be remembered for being selfish, where you’re only caring about yourself? Or do you want to really be remembered for giving everything you had to your team?"
