Phillies Make Major Bryce Harper Announcement After Elbow Injury

Philadelphia Phillies fans can breathe a little easier after learning All-Star slugger Bryce Harper avoided a severe injury Tuesday night.

The Phillies announced that x-rays on Harper's right elbow were negative. Harper suffered an elbow contusion on a first-inning hit-by-pitch from Atlanta Braves starter Spencer Strider.

Harper immediately left the game, with Edmundo Sosa replacing him on the bases. Sosa subsequently stayed in the game and took over third base in the second inning, Alec Bohm moving from third to first.

It was unclear at publication if Harper, a two-time NL MVP, would need to miss any time. Harper previously had right elbow surgery following the 2022 World Series.

The Phillies cannot afford to lose Harper, who remains among the league's more reliable hitters in his age-33 season. Harper, an eight-time All-Star, entered play hitting .267 with eight home runs, 33 RBI, and a .823 OPS in 53 games.

Harper has posted 1.5 bWAR and an impressive 42-33 K-BB ratio for the NL East-leading Phillies.

Philadelphia, a league-best 34-19, holds a 1.5-game advantage over the rival New York Mets.
