Phillies Make Trea Turner Announcement Amid Injury

After some not-so-pleasant flashbacks to a worse scenario last season, the Philadelphia Phillies' speedy shortstop has returned after only a few days.

Trea Turner, who missed two games in Washington with back spasms, will be back in the starting lineup tonight against the Colorado Rockies. Turner did not start Monday in the home opener, but later pinch hit and drew a walk.

After using extra caution and the club's additional day off on Tuesday, Philly manager Rob Thomson has slotted Turner back in the leadoff spot against Colorado lefty Kyle Freeland. Turner also hit first on Opening Day, and the plan to begin this year is having him and Kyle Schwarber split leadoff duties based on the opposition's starting pitcher.

Turner missed approximately six weeks last season with a left hamstring strain. Outside of that, he was one of many hitters who did well for the eventual NL East champs, hitting .295 with 21 home runs, 25 doubles, 62 RBI, and 19 stolen bases. Turner also made his third All-Star team in four years, alongside Bryce Harper, Alec Bohm, and four Philly pitchers.

Turner is in year three of 11 in the massive contract he signed with Philly - which most, if not all of, will be spent with his second-time teammate Harper. While they've got a long way to go with their respective careers, this may be their best shot left to win a World Series together. Turner won a title right after Harper departed from D.C., but he has not been back to the Fall Classic since.

First pitch against Colorado is scheduled for 6:45 pm EST. Zack Wheeler is on the mound for his second Phillies start of the season.
