Phillies Outfielder Faces Potential Setback in Rehab Assignment

Brandon Marsh truly can't get much more unlucky than he's been in 2025.

After a dismal start at the plate, Marsh added injury to insult with a right hamstring strain that landed him on the 10-day IL, retroactive to 4/17. Now the outfielder is rehabbing with the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs, but even that isn't going as planned.

Marsh left Sunday's game - his fourth minors appearance and third start in center field - after six innings. According to Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia, Marsh's early exit was due to another hamstring issue. He'll be reevaluated in Philly on Monday.

Marsh entered this season as Philadelphia's everyday center fielder, but it seems like he's done everything he can to lose it. The fifth-year major leaguer is down to an .095 average and is in the midst of an 0-for-31 streak. He's been fine in the field, but that doesn't make up for being an automatic out.

Marsh hit .249 with 16 HRs and 60 RBI last season, but he was only successful against right-handed pitchers. Philly manager Rob Thomson wanted to give him more opportunities against lefties this year, but he had only 16 plate appearances against them before getting hurt.

Meanwhile, Johan Rojas is taking full advantage of his sudden opportunities in center. Rojas has started the last 10 games entering Sunday and has hit 9-for-29 (.310) with six runs scored and five RBI. If he keeps that production up, then Marsh could find himself relegated to a reserve role when he returns.

He'll have to hope his cramp doesn't delay him much longer.
